One day@Kabukicho #DAY197 - It's still only July, but it already feels like the middle of summer
It took a while for my friend and me to find a time that worked for both of us, so I ended up back in Kabukicho for the first time in over a month. This time, I didn't come away with as many good shots as I'd hoped, considering how much I walked around. It was also unbelievably hot, even after 11pm., so every now and then I'd duck into an air-conditioned arcade just to cool off.
I usually wander around the city after the last trains have stopped running, but this time I was out while the trains were still running, which is pretty unusual for me. Maybe that's why there were so many people around. Or perhaps it was because of the holiday weekend.
The last time I came to Kabukicho, I almost lost my iPhone again. My friend and I were talking about it, and she said, "If you were as glued to your phone as I am, you would've noticed within five minutes. But you're just not like that.". She had a point. I spent almost an hour wandering around taking photos without realizing my iPhone was missing.
It's not that I want to photograph any particular person, but over the past few years I've realized that I really enjoy photographing scenes with people in them. This photo is a good example. I was sitting on some steps for a while to rest when I noticed someone a little farther ahead. I thought, "Why not?" and took a shot.
As a matter of fact, I didn't come away with many photos that day, considering how long I walked around. I spent about an hour and a half wandering the streets, but I took fewer than 30 shots. In the end, I processed 13 of them, and only 7 made it into this post. Normally, I can easily take around 30 photos in about an hour. Maybe the heat started to catch up with me halfway through.
A little while ago, when I was walking around the TŌYOKO area, there were trash bins here. This time, though, it looked like they'd gone back to piling the garbage on the street instead. Even so, it wasn't scattered everywhere, so the place didn't really feel all that dirty.
I'm not sure whether I'll be back in Kabukicho at the end of this month or sometime next month. I've had a lot going on lately, and there have been quite a few days when I've felt completely worn out. Still, spending time with my friend in Kabukicho and wandering the streets with my camera is something I never get tired of. I always enjoy it too much to stop. I'm already looking forward to the next visit.
See you then.
