How should technology be going to be used for?
When I was an university student, one of classes I got impressed strongly was class of the information literacy. At that age, there hadn't been any video streaming services like the YouTube yet, but speed of network was on way to get fast and fast.
大学生の頃に受けた授業ですごく覚えている授業がある。情報リテラシーの授業。その頃、YouTube みたいな動画共有サービスの類はまだなかったんだけど、ネットワーク速度は速くなってきていた。

Oneday at the class, teacher at that class asked us how this sort of technology should be goint to be used for?
At that age, network speed getting fast was often used to share files underground. Yeah, most of them were illegal. But remember early 2000's, it was certainly like that situation. And that's also why the iTunes Music Store got smash hit, music industry that wanted to protect somehow their copyrights online, accepted the deal from the Apple.
Repeatedly, let me say strongly that a lot of contents online at that days were illegal in reality.
ある日の授業、先生から挙がったのは「こういう技術はどうやって使われていくべきか？」ってものだった。
その頃、速くなってきていたネットワークスピードはよくアングラなファイル共有に使われていた。もちろん違法。ただ2000年代初頭を思い出してみて欲しいんだけど、ほんとそんな感じだった。それが iTunes Music Store が大ヒットした理由でもあって、なんとかしてオンラインでの権利を守りたかった音楽業界が Apple からの契約を受け入れた理由でもあるし。
ただ繰り返しになるけど強く言っておきたいのは、当時のオンラインのコンテンツは実際にそんな感じで多くが違法なものだった、ってこと。
Why we had class like that.
Well, In my case, why students including me had to learn about that, was because it was art university including creating contents like movies and so on, maybe. Students like me there, should've been worried about and learned out copyrights.
It's a bit embarrassing though, no students there could imagine that service like the YouTube was going to appear. At that days, even though the network speed got faster than before, we were unable to imagine watching better quality videos online, especially by streaming live.
さてはて、なぜそんなことを勉強していたかっていうと、おそらく自分のいた大学が美大で動画とかコンテンツを作る側だったから、って気がする。自分も含めて著作権について自分たちで守る方法とか、どういうものなのかを学んでおく必要があったわけだ。
ちょっと恥ずかしい話なんだけど、当時その場の学生は誰も YouTube みたいなサービスが登場するなんて想像していなかった。当時はいくらネットワーク速度が速くなったとはいえ、それなりの品質のビデオをオンラインで、しかもライブストリーミングで観れるようになるなんて想像していなかった。

Yes, now I can answer the question how this sort of technology should be used for. That's what we do daily now, like watching videos, syncing files to cloud servers background, and so on.
I dropped out of the university due to some reasons though, I was trying hard learning in fact.
そんなわけで今なら当時の質問に答えられる。こういう、今みんなが毎日使っているような・・・オンラインで動画をみたり、バックグラウンドでファイルをクラウドと同期したり・・・そういう使われ方をされるべき、ってのが答えだったのだろう。
いろいろあって中退はしたものの、ちゃんとまじめに勉強してたんだよ。
