One day@Kabukicho #DAY156 - The weak yen sucks, and we may be going to gradually lose a lot of important things.
I always develop photos on an iPad Pro, but this month the new iPad Pro came out so I decided to upgrade and buy it. I also write articles for Voice here on the iPad Pro, so of course I bought Magic Keyboard as well. Actually, I've started developing photos and writing articles on the new iPad Pro since the last article.
Previous Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro wasn't bad, but because the entire keyboard including the palm rest was made of polyurethane, I always thought about the durability using it for a long time. Then the new Magic Keyboard released for the new iPad Pro has a palm rest made of aluminum similar to that of the MacBook Pro. As I'd imagined, because the entire keyboard surface including the palm rest got made of aluminum, now it's a very stable feel. Of course, the texture has also improved significantly compared to before.
There is also a big reason for developing photos on the iPad Pro. It is quite simple, it's because the quality and delicacy of expression of the display are truly great like it can't be comparable to others. 261 pixel per inch and 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio... I know that it's honestly meaningless to write those numbers. I'm sorry that my vocabulary and expressive skills may be lacking, but it's just beautiful anyway.
So, the quality of the products themselves was already great to begin with, and I know that it's improved further this time as well, but what I really dislike is that is's no longer the kind of iPad that we could just casually buy without being worried about the price like we used to. Moreover, the recent absurdly weak yen in the past few years is also a factor. When the first generation of iPad was released, the exchange rate was around 100 yen to 1 dollar, so it was quite easy to understand the pricing in the United States and Japan. When I looked it up, it seems that it was priced starting at $499 in the US and 48,800 yen in Japan. Really easy to understand, right?
Well, it's no surprise that products that name with the "Pro" from Apple tend to have a significantly higher price range. By the way, the new iPad Pro starts at $999 in the United States. If this was the exchange rate at the time when the first generation iPad was released, the price in Japan would probably have been around 99,800 yen. But it's currently 168,800 yen, actually.
I do not intend to talk about economics here, but I think that when the cost of tools goes up, it also means that fewer people are able to afford them. I think that especially Apple products including the iPad, have become indispensable for people who want to do things like photography, creating videos, and creating music and so on though.
Originally, those Apple products were the products with high-quality that the others can't imitate at a reasonable price range so that everyone could enjoy them. But now, it's getting difficult to buy because of things like exchange rates, ecomonic factors and adult circumstances. In the past, there was actually a story in overseas that a boy sold his organs to get what he wanted, like selling our soul to the devil in a way. It makes me wonder if Japan will also reach a point in the close future where purchasing power disminishes to that extend, so. I'm scared and worried about that kind of future.
See you then.
