One day@Kabukicho #DAY195 - The night before the long holiday begins.

Japan's Golden Week is a bit messy this year with weekdays in between, so it's hard to pin down. Some people treat it as starting around April 29, others from May 2, and depending on how you take days off, it can stretch to May 6 or even May 10. For me, it's basically May 2 to May 10.

In Kabukicho, I often come across people lying around like this, you can't tell if they're just asleep or something worse. And there's a part of me that finds it oddly fascinating. I mean, it's not like bodies are just lying around that easily.

Maybe it's because of the long holiday, but there were way more people than usual. Even after the last trains, when I was out walking and taking photos, it thinned out a bit, but it never really felt like the crowds disappeared.

I found myself shooting around "Omoide no Nukemichi" for the first time in a while. Every now and then, I just feel like taking photos in that area. Funny thing is, I actually pass through it quite often as an actual shortcut (Nukemichi means shortcut), I just don't always stop to shoot.

The thing is, "Omoide no Nukemichi" is such a narrow alley that it's actually tough to shoot there. You can't really step back to get a wider frame. It feels like the path is barely about 1.2 meters wide, just incredibly tight.

rA vintage Marilyn Monroe poster with a Tokyo "smoking permitted" sticker that was probably added in the last few years. I liked the contrast and decided to take the shot. Just going by the vibe, it almost feels like a scene from an old Western.

People in this city really know how to make use of the city's structures. Like in this photo, where someone's placed a drink on that roadside fixture. You see scenes like this all over the place, not just here. I've even come across spots where old-school ashtrays are set up.

I kind of like this vibe, the way trash is just left out on the street, not hidden away to make things look tidy. There's something honest about the atmosphere here. I haven't been there that often, but I get the feeling that in places like Roppongi, even though it's also a busy district, you wouldn't see things left out on the street like this.

I'm still in the middle of the holidays. I wouldn't say I'm doing anything special, but I've been taking naps, cleaning and organizing my place, and finally getting around to things I don't usually have time for on a normal weekend. All in all, it's been a pretty satisfying break.

See you then.
