What seriously changed my life #1.5 - iMac and iBook.

iMac, the very first Macintosh computer of mine.
When I was 16 years old, finally I bought an iMac SE as my first Macintosh computer. I clearly remember that I bought it at online shop of the Sofmap, because there wasn't any store that the iMac is available around my home in local city of Niigata Pref. That was the one that works with MacOS 9. It was already about 6 or 7 years left after I encountered the Mac for the first time when I was an elementary school student.
16歳の時、自分にとってはじめての Mac を遂に買った。iMac SE。よーく覚えている。地元新潟の近隣になんて iMac を置いている店なんてなくて、Sofmap のオンラインストアで買ったんだ。小学生の頃に初めて Mac に出会ってからすでに6〜7年くらい経ってた。
As time using the iMac went on, I got to want to try the Mac OS X. There were several reasons. Of course one of the reasons was that the Mac OS X was the newest OS. But another of them which is so important, was that the Mac OS X was based on the UNIX and I could use the true UNIX that works as the local system, on Terminal.app of the Mac OS X itself.
iMac を使っていく中で Mac OS X を使いたくなった。いくつも理由はあるんだけど、もちろん Mac OS X が最新の OS だからってのもあるんだけど、もうひとつすごい大きいのが Mac OX X は UNIX で動いていて、ローカルの UNIX を Mac OS X 自体の Terminal.app で操作できるってことだった。

In addition, I've not written yet though, one of things changed my life is the Internet. I'm going to write about that someday as article of this series though, the UNIX/Linux was very important factor, it was also necessary factor to do what I want to on the web. I'd been already friendly to the command-line-based interface through the experience using the MS-DOS originally, so it was not so difficult or special thing to use shell like bash/zsh and so on.
それからまだこのシリーズの記事としては書いていないけど、自分の人生を変えたもののひとつがインターネット。そのうちこのシリーズでもその記事を書くけど、UNIX/Linux は自分がウェブ上でやりたいことをやるためには重要で不可欠なものだった。もともと MS-DOS を使っていたりとコマンドラインベースの操作には慣れていたし、bash とか zsh とかを使うのもそんなに難しいことも特別なことでもなかった。
iBook, it took me to the UNIX world, seriously.
After I got to want to try the Mac OS X, I bought the one and installed the Mac OS X into the iMac. It was the Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar. I used the Mac OS X on the iMac for a while though, the iMac SE was not enough powerful to use the Mac OS X. It was so slow. In addition, I thought the display resolution of the iMac was not enough to use the Mac OS X. So I made a decision to buy a new Mac.
Before I went to store to buy a new Mac, I thought I was going to buy an eMac. Because simply the resolution of eMac was bigger than iMac and it was not so pricy. It was about 100,000 Yen.
Let me show you a bit about display resolution of both of them. Resolution of iMac at that days was XGA (1024 x 768), resolution of eMac was SXGA (1280 x 1024).
Somehow what I bought was an iBook G4 after all. Story why I bought the iBook G4 is written on this article.
Mac OS X・・・インストールしたのは Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar。そのまま iMac でしばらく Mac OS X を使っていたんだけど、iMac SE には Mac OS X は重すぎた。あとディスプレイの解像度も足りないな、と。なので新しい Mac を買うことにした。
買いに行く前は eMac を買うつもりだった。単純に eMac は解像度が iMac より大きかったのと、そんなに高くなかったから。大体10万円くらいだった。
ちょっと iMac と eMac の解像度を書いておこう。iMac は XGA（1024 x 768）で、eMac は SXGA（1280 x 1024）。
そしてなぜか結局買ったのは iBook G4 だった。なんで iBook を買っちゃったのか、みたいな話はこの記事に書いてある。
Anyway...
Anyway, it's absolutely the fact that the Apple changed my life. Of course the Mac is as I wrote and the iPod is same as well. Because I used to use iPods, now I use the iPhone. Actually everything is connected, not separated.
On next article of this series, I hope to write about the Internet.
とにもかくにも、Apple が自分の人生を変えたのは絶対的な事実。Mac はもちろんのこと、iPod もそう。iPod を使っていたから、今 iPhone を使っている。実は全部繋がってる。
このシリーズの次の記事はインターネットについて書いておきたいな。
