One day@Kabukicho #DAY194 - The night after my birthday.

I turned 42 on April 17. The night after my birthday, I headed to Kabukicho for the first time in about three weeks, of course to meet my usual friend and take some photos. I've been shooting in Kabukicho for quite a while now... it has already been about three and a half years?

As soon as we met, I was given a birthday cake. All I could say was thank you. I'd already gotten a message on LINE just after midnight, so I thought that was more than enough to celebrate my birthday, but I never expected there to be a cake too. Honestly, I can't say anything but thank you.

As you can see in this photo, Kabukicho was insanely crowded that night. People were everywhere, and because of that, taxis could barely move, causing heavy traffic jams like this. Honestly, I'm impressed that taxi drivers can navigate through situations like this without hitting anyone.

Is this place a live music venue, or a bar? I've taken photos of it a few times before, but I still don't really know. There's just something about the atmosphere that makes me want to take it.

I made sure to stop by TŌYOKO that day too. Somehow, walking around and taking in that whole area has become a kind of routine for me. Maybe it's because it's such an inseparable part of what defines this neighborhood.

Around the TŌYOKO area, you see both younger groups and middle-aged groups. I can kind of understand why the younger crowd gathers there, but I'm not really sure what draws the middle-aged groups to that spot. If they just want to drink, you'd think they'd go to an izakaya or something. Or maybe there's some reason for them to gather there too?

The last shot of the day. As I was walking around, I noticed a lot of fire trucks going back and forth, but I kept taking photos anyway. Then, when I started heading back to the parking lot thinking it was about time to call it a night, I ran into a cordoned-off area, covering quite a wide range. It's not in the photo, but the police were there too. I wonder what happened.

See you then.
